ECHO FESTIVAL
In June 2009, the first echo festival will be launched under the patronage of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), a unique live cultural event celebrating creative, ecological and sustainable lifestyles.
Created in 1972, UNEP’s mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and people to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment, enhances political attention and action and more importantly engage and empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.
ECHO - Environmental and Cultural Heritage Organisation – partners with the United Nations Environment Programme to bring mass awareness of environmental issues and solutions through the creation of annual live cultural events throughout Europe. Instead of using the ‘doom and gloom’ negative approach, ECHO creates an inspiring, engaging and innovative three-day festival to inform, entertain and empower people about the environment.
The echo festival combines unique cultural and social events – an International Symposium, an ‘Architecture, Design & Technology’ exhibit, an eco-fashion show, live music concerts and an Awards ceremony – within the echo Village hosting NGO booths, the ‘Kids & Teens Creative Area’ and organic food and products stands.
Bridging culture and ecology, the echo festival brings together business, NGOs, government, industry and the community of artists, designers, celebrities and high profile environment personalities with a mass public audience into a shared eco-cultural experience. The echo festival provides knowledge to help change cultural and economic habits and encourages participants to adopt new ecological and sustainable lifestyles.
The echo festival reaches to a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary group transcending races and religions that share common values in creating a sustainable culture and willing to adopt new eco-friendly lifestyles.
Citizens of the EU demand for a greater commitment from authorities, decision makers and companies. They clearly state they lack information on relatively new or specific environment issues and would like to know more about the solutions rather than about the problems.
Sponsorship of the echo festival provides outstanding opportunities and benefits to companies. Partnering with UNEP gives high credibility to any company wishing to demonstrate its involvement and care for sustainable development and protection of the environment. In addition, the echo festival represents a unique platform allowing companies to communicate with people through an innovative and engaging programme.
